Explore faith

You have questions. That's a good place to start.

Faith often starts with an unshakable question. Questions like the ones you might ask yourself in the middle of a sleepless night, in a hospital waiting room or in the car after a bad week. Any of these sound like yours?

Why does anything exist?

The universe did not have to be here. The sole reason it and everything in it exists, including you, is because God wills it to, out if His infinite love. It isn't a childish question — it's the oldest one there is.

Who was Jesus, really?

He was more than just a good teacher or a historical prophet; He is truly the Lord and the Son of God. Jesus's life on earth exemplified radical selflessness, humility and profound love. Right now, He's inviting you to know Him...

Been away
If God is good, why was that allowed?

God allows bad things to happen because He prioritizes our free will over forcing safety. Even in suffering, He can bring about a greater good from the worst situations.

Been away
Can I come back after years away?

Yes, and you don't owe anyone an account of the years. There's no re-entry process, no form, no conversation you have to have before you walk in.

Everyone
How do I pray if I've never done it?

It starts with showing up! Find some quiet time when you can be alone. Put all distractions away. Start by saying one true thing about your day. Feel free to talk out loud!

Everyone
What if I doubt the whole thing?

Doubt is a natural part of faith, with certainty as its opposite. Try reflecting on why you are asking the question. Are you seeking truth, or looking for an excuse to walk away?

Three practices that fit into the life you already have

Set an intention for your day first thing in the morning

Start where you’re at, explore faith one intention at a time. God does not need you to know everything to start turning to Him.

Read a few verses every day

Spend a few minutes each day reading the Bible. If you don’t have a physical Bible, check out an online version like bible.usccb.org/bible

Look back at the day with gratitude

Reflect on the gifts and graces in your day, start with the simple and obvious things. Send a “thanks” up to Him. Two minutes. It’s the simplest practice with the greatest reward.
